Stereo Sessions #4 – Diamond Carter – “Don’t Stop Screaming “

Here is our next Stereo Sessions with Diamond Carter.  Elijah “Lij” Shaw mixed the music through the MCI console to 1/4″ analog tape in real time during the show. The video was created by Brad Cash (cameraman), and Myke Scaffidi who did a fantastic job! Congrats to Diamond Carter for winning the Radio Lightening Music Mayhem with “Let Yourself Be Loved” also featured in Stereo Sessions #3. We have also been working hard on a new record. So keep a look out for Diamond Carter playing lots of shows around Nashville!

Cheers!

Studio School #2 – Drum Recording Workshop, April 18th 2013

redkap_music_bts-72

Please join us for our next Studio School where we will be focusing on recording drums. We will teach a number of different techniques for miking drums and give the students hands on experience with mics, processing, and mix setup.

While many teaching programs offer access to expensive gear and highlight the studio’s benefits we plan to focus on empowering the engineer with skills that can be applied in any studio situation. A recording session should finish with the client singing praises for the engineer first and for the studio second. We want to help students on the path toward that recognition.

carsie_blanton_toy_box_studio-5917 Lij Shaw will be teaching the class, has 25 years of experience recording in studios all across the country, and enjoys sharing what he has learned along the way. Our goal with Studio School is to enable students to walk into any studio large or small and be prepared to make great records!

This session will be limited to 8 students and $25 per student for the four hour class. The class will be Thursday night April 18th 6pm-10pm. Please contact The Toy Box Studio if you are interested in attending.

Please visit and like our Facebook page. We will give away one free admission to the comment with the most likes that answers these three questions:

  1. Why you would like to come to Studio School?

  2. What you would like to learn?

  3. Share an example of a great recording!

Stereo Sessions #3 – Diamond Carter – “Let Yourself Be loved”

Check out our next Stereo Sessions with Diamond Carter. While most of East Nashville was quiet on a monday night The Toy Box Studio was bouncing and rocking out! We captured 12 songs to tape and video in one night and will be rolling them out over the next few weeks. Elijah “Lij” Shaw mixed the music through the MCI console to 1/4″ analog tape in real time during the show. The video was created by Brad Cash (cameraman), and Myke Scaffidi (editor) who did a fantastic job! And thanks again to Michael Lovett of Phatmagnet for brilliant tech support.

Our favorite place to eat lunch working at The Toy Box Studio is a small taqueria called El Jalicience up the road a mile. Fantastic tacos and the most deliciously hot green and brown salsas. Any lunch hour and you’re likely to find it filled with Mexican Americans and East Nashville musicians. Last year I met a band at the table next to me that had just finished making their new record, Boys and Girls. They called themselves the Alabama Shakes. You are always likely to meet interesting people at The Jolly Jense (our butchered pronunciation of Jalicience)

More recently I was having lunch by myself and the only other occupied table sat a couple of younger guys one of whom sported a bright red shock of Elvis style hair.  We got to talking and it turned out that they were recent transplants to East Nashville. They call themselves, Diamond Carter, and had moved here from Los Angeles to break their band. I love it! Now bands are moving from LA to East Nashville to get famous. How cool is that? They have a big cool 5 piece soul band with three backup singers named The Red Pandas. So I invited them to come to Stereo Sessions for a show with International Scout fronted by Dave Henderson, a long time Nashville native now in Cookeville (past bands: Green Road Shotgun and The Roaries).

These guys rocked the house. Stay tuned for more videos to come.

Cheers!

Lij
